Cosmetic Surgery is the popular term used to describe a group of plastic surgery procedures performed to enhance the appearance in some way. The term can be a bit confusing, because it implies to some people that this type of surgery is in some way just an extension of cosmetics and makeup. It is important to realize that Cosmetic surgery is "real surgery", so it is important to ensure that you consult a qualified Plastic Surgeon who is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. Most of the techniques used in cosmetic surgery are also used for non cosmetic medical reasons. For example, breast enlargement may be performed for congenital malformations, simple asymmetry or cancer reconstruction, as well as for cosmetic indications. Breast uplift may be performed to correct the stretching and sag caused by pregnancy and lactation.
